Make internet to work for you

I think you all will be familiar with the site www.iftt.com  ( If This Then That ) . The founders Jesse Tane and Linden Tibbets have given the idea of making the internet to work for us. We can integrate social sites, online clouds we use within the account created in iftt and make them to do things we wish. For example you can join your facebook account and dropbox together and give the task as "if i am tagged in an photo in facebook then download that in to my dropbox account". Thus you no need to do things, you can just command the web to do it.

Now we are going to see about a gadget created under the same idea, "Ninja Blocks" . The same work done in iftt is done over here, but the additional feature is that, we will be provided with some hardware that could sense temperature, humidity, people motion and do certain things according to that . Using these hardware we can get done some additional work from the gadgets. Actually it bridges the things in your life with the web. Maybe you want to get an alert when your friends are playing on Xbox Live, or send an SMS to your phone when someone is at your front door. Even if you're an electronics expert, or a programming prodigy, these are complex, finicky projects. Ninja Blocks puts aside the complexity of electronics, networking, and coding and allows you to focus on creating.

Ninja Blocks are simple but powerful open source hardware backed by an amazing web service called Ninja Cloud that allows your Ninja Block to talk to your favorite web apps such as Twitter, Facebook, Dropbox, Weather and more. Each Ninja Block comes with an RGB LED and built-in temperature sensor and accelerometer. Four expansion ports and a regular USB port allow you to add further inputs and outputs.

Tasks

Ninja Cloud allows you to program your NInja Block by creating Tasks. Tasks are made up of Triggers and Actions.
You can tell your Ninja to perform tasks like:

+ Talk to Siri and turn on the light
+ Take a picture of your front yard and save it to Dropbox when movement is detected
+ Switch your lava lamp on whenever your friends are playing on Xbox Live
+ Get a notification on your phone when a package is left at your door
+ If your baby is crying turn on a lamp in the hallway

Example Triggers:                                                              Example Actions:

"Movement has been detected"                                   "Display text on an LCD display"
"The temperature has risen above"                               "Play a sound"
"You've been tagged in a photo on Facebook"             "Send a tweet"
"You've sent a new tweet"                                           "Open a relay"
"A button has been pushed"                                         "Turn on a light"
"Sound is detected"                                                     "Send an SMS to my phone"
"Your friend has checked in"                                       "Post a message on Facebook"

Sensors

Initially, they have developed 5 sensors and have many more under design.

Light   - Use this to sense when a light is turned on/off
Humidity - Check the moisture of a room
Distance - Measure when something come close (like a door opening)
Motion - Check for movement
Push Button - Perfect for using as a trigger to turn things on and off

More sensors can be seen on the ninjablocks ..

Ninja Blocks are easy to use, and setting one up is no exception. Just plug your Ninja Block into your network via ethernet and in your Web Browser go to ninjablocks.com. Your Ninja Block is ready to command!

                                           Start commanding the Web :)
